No such thing as balance for women; only acceptance. Accept that on some days you’ll be a better mother than lawyer and on some days you’ll be a better lawyer than mother, and that is all okay. Did the large firm M&A thing until my oldest child turned 13 and youngest turned 3 and could no longer handle. Finally went in-house at a large company to handle corporate and commercial contract work and it was the best decision I ever made. Took a big pay cut the first year (somewhat cushioned by a sign-on bonus), but quickly made it up over the next 2-3 years in raises, bonuses and equity. It’s not always perfect in-house and there are bad days here and there, but overall much less stress and better home life. Whatever you decide, best of luck.
In lev fin. I am with you.
thank you 😢
Following this one, but wanted to empathize…I feel the same re practice area choices when I was also young and dumb lol. Since getting married and pregnant (not in m&a but also a crazy corporate practice) I am realizing I was quite idealistic about how to navigate the tension points between work demands and family life, didn’t realize how it would really be until I got here.
