I think I would judge their portfolio more than their resume
I do pay attention to resumes, especially how they showcase creativity. Still, I remind myself not to judge too quickly, sometimes the most impressive work comes from candidates with simpler resumes. Balancing resume style with actual skills is key for me, even if agency standards are strict.
Yes. You are not a god. You can only review what is history and look for positive patterns. I would also include people on my team who have a noted record of success and expertise in the area you are searching for hire. I have a very good record of hiring, but I have also had my share of poor choices. This is not an exact Science. And, you can’t be an expert in all areas. Team work + practice/experience = a great hire …..most of the time. Soon, and this is unscientific , you will develop what I call the “sniff test”. As soon as you meet the candidate, you’ll note something does not “smell” right. And, then follow your nose because the person will probably say something or infer something to confirm your suspicions. Do not be fooled by looks or friendly conversations. Also, do a second round of interviews with other appropriate staff and see if you get the same results. Here’s one more freebee…..check their FB. Good luck and let me know how you do. Blessings.
You’re lucky to work for a company that’s not trying to outsource creative roles to AI or overseas. A lot of creative agencies are going that way.
