I am in the finance dept at my agency and have been struggling to get into the media department. I'm fine starting off in a junior role but after countless applications no one will give me a chance.

I’m job searching right now and applied for a job I was a little overqualified for just to shoot my shot and get my foot in the door with a great brand. The hiring mgr took the time to email me to tell me I was overqualified and offered to help me get connected to his network. He’s been so kind and helpful and I’m kind of in shock at his generosity. Even if an offer doesn’t come from it, is it weird if I send him a Starbucks gift card or something as a thank you? What’s appropriate?

Is it OK to switch only after 2-3 months of joining?

Has anyone ever taken a break from advertising? What job did you do (in-house, something completely different)? Did you find it difficult to come back?
