Have you been able to become friends with anybody in the media dept at your agency? Maybe volunteer to pitch in or even shadow when (or if) you have some downtime. Finding someone internally who can mentor or advocate is a big step. Even if it doesn’t lead to an internal move, you can get advice on skills to develop that will get you into media.
Good luck
You’re going to have to be direct and ask for what you want.
Your best shot is where you are.
Ask one person in the department for lunch or coffee and pick their brain. Tell them you think media is interesting and you really like working at your agency and would like to learn more about what they do.
Or have an honest conversation with your boss and ask them to facilitate an introduction as a means to expand your knowledge.
If you don’t think that will go over well and will be seen as some form of “betrayal”, I would reach out to a planner on LinkedIn that you don’t have a connection with.
This is an excellent idea. I'll try to reach to someone in Media for an informational coffee. I will also try to connect with some on LinkedIn. I find it easier to break the ice honestly. Thanks for the advice.
Any thoughts on how to get my foot in the door?
