Anyone here who has started your own public accounting firm after working at a mid sized or big 4 firm? I realize it wouldn't be easy but also imagine it could be very profitable and most importantly to me, provide freedom from the bureaucracy seen at a national or regional firm. Any insights or resources that would be good to check out? Thanks!

Lol I don't think I do either

Problem is by the time you get to that point you need a good amount of capital not only to start up, but also to support yourself and family until you can match current comp.

The problem is by the time you have the confidence to pull the trigger you’re too old. I have a friend and we graduated college the same year. She jumped off the train 10 years I. And started her own cpa firm, and now 10 years later doing great. The other issue is if your at a big 4 and specializing it would be near impossible to pull off

If an employee mentions something disparaging or accusatory about their manager during an exit interview, how would you handle? What happens if what the employee said is slanderous and a “he said/she said” situation? I.e. employee claimed the manager made a disparaging remark about an item of clothing being worn by someone in accordance with their beliefs. If you opt to share the feedback with the manager, would the manager have a legal case against the company or former employee?
