I got a remote L6 SWE offer at Google but the RSUs are too low for that level ($625k over 4 years), could not negotiate it higher. I’ve accepted the offer but trying to be hopeful that I could make it more equitable in the future if I perform well. Are stock refreshers based on the initial RSU grant or solely based on performance? Google

i received this same comment from my ECD — she even said i wasn’t “adding value” despite managing multiple teams, leading the intern program, and consistently delivering work under ridiculous timing. she told me this on a commercial shoot i was creatively leading.
i quit soon afterwards. why would i want to work for someone who thinks so poorly of me?
so, yeah, i’m also curious about the answers here.
I have had similar feedback. Something that’s worked for me is trying to reframe my work reputation like it’s a project. I make sure I’m getting visibility with regulars touch points and updates to leadership. I’ve heavily involved myself with our agency comms team, and they big up all the award stuff for me.
Yeah. I’ve been there. Just reading this fills me with dread of remembering it! Regretfully, you’re in an environment where just doing the work alone isn’t cutting it; you have to surface and share your wins and progress. Whether it’s a weekly update email or gathering compliments and highlights and sharing them as progress with leaders and people of influence in your org, branding and marketing yourself is part of your job as well. It’ll feel cringe, but it’s all in how you frame it.
Been here, don’t love this feedback but it’s the reality of this industry. What’s worked for me: applauding my teams’ work with my bosses/key stakeholders on copy. The praise is for others, which feels good to me, but it also has the halo of showing I’m managing high preforming projects. I also will forward happy client notes or positive developments to my manager with just an FYI, not a massive note on why I’m proud of this, just awareness of the impact my work is having. To my chagrin I also aim to set up 1:1s with senior leaders whenever appropriate, maybe I could use their advice on something they’re an expert in, or they’re simply visiting my region. It’s awkward but in my org no one ever says no, I usually get some good advice out of it, and I get another person at the table who knows me on some level. Good luck!
Wait did you really just rewrite someone else’s post from a few months ago??
Weird lol
