BEC in about a month and half and I just got to the second module/part today and now panicking. I know it's totally do-able in that time frame (some even "crammed the weekend before" and passed). But I'm a slow learner and it occurred to me, maybe I'm just not learning/studying optimally. Can someone please throw some study routines below? I desperately need to fix mine.

Mine is:

Day 1: Read & annotate chapter

Day 2: Convert notes into flashcards

Day 3: MCQ

Day 4: Convert MCQ notes too.

This worked back in college, but the CPA exam ISN'T college. This whole time, I've been trying to study the same way I had been when I was aiming for that 4.0/perfect score.

I'm considering just skipping lectures and book to just cram MCQs, but not sure if that's a good idea. This is my first exam and I just keep changing routines because it feels like nothing is working...

You take too much time for BEC, you can do in 5 weeks of a full time studying. Listen lectures on 1.5 speed and do multiple choice questions (work with timer, no more than 1.5-2 min for the question). Listen simulations and go to the next lecture. It should not take long, you do not need a perfect score.

Me too! I just scheduled to take BEC on 9/25. I’m super slow too and this will be my first section. I’ve been out of school for a while and it’s hard to get the motivation and find the best way to study.
No worries you’re not alone!!! I’m at B4 now. It took me a while to study B2. There are a lot of info and formulas. You’ll eventually see similar formulas again in B3 and B4!!

Module 2 also has a ton of information and when I took the test it was barely even on it. Id get through all of the material timely and then focus on the hotter topics during final review

I wanted to follow up on this and say I got my score back this past week and completely thought that I had failed it. I walked out thinking I did the worst out of all of them. I ended up with the highest out of all 4 of my scores with a 90. You’ve got this good luck !

You’ve got this! That sounds like a solid study routine to pass. I’m studying for BEC right now as well. I would say that your study routine highly depends on (1) your starting point and (2) your learning style.

Your starting point depends on a number of factors, but if you graduated somewhat recently, your starting point is mostly dependent on the school you went to and your performance in school. If you went to a school that has historically high pass rates and you performed decently well, then the chances are you won’t need to study much for BEC. If you didn’t, then you’ll need to prep a bit more.

As far as learning style goes, do what has worked for you in the past. There’s no need to worry about studying longer than the next person. I’m someone who spends more time than I need to taking and reviewing notes. While this method is much less efficient and may appear as if I’m a “slow learner,” it turns out that I’m just someone who is interested in the details and mastering the material.

If you feel yourself obsessing over knowing every detail because you’re afraid that you’ll fail, then take a step back and realize that this a four hour exam. The majority of the exceptions or one-off rules will not be tested. The exam cannot possibly go into excruciating detail on everything in Becker if it’s testing your ability to be generally comfortable with a wide range of topics. Follow the 80/20 principle and spend 20% of the time it would take to know everything to familiarize yourself with the 80% of the material that will most likely be tested.

You can do this. I’m rooting for you, future CPA!
