Starting a new job next week and when do I tell my coworkers that I have a newborn? Male asking.

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. For context I’ve been in company less than a year and there are people who have been in the company 25yrs. I’m thinking of cutting loose before it gets to my turn.

How do you deal with not getting the desired output from somebody working under you? I think I’ve given enough examples and direction but the work still isn’t where I need it.

I'm not sure what else I did other than being respectful and not giving flip at the same time but (4) mature ladies in my office flirt with me every chance they get. Some of my M colleagues are beginning to notice and giving the prod. I must confess it comes with some perks as I do appreciate how fast they process my requests/orders which a M colleague literally told me is biased. Best way to explain to new firms that you are leaving your current firm because of the toxic culture and frankly, a President who talk down to people every chance he gets?

I teach freshmen who haven't met the only other single teacher in my department. Today, I asked one of them to take something to him and immediately kids started talking about how we were dating. Ugh.

How long is it sustainable to talk to someone without meeting in person due to covid? I find myself getting bored because the meeting in person is what determines whether we actually vibe.

I’m a firm believer that a manager should develop a positive relationship with employees, but I don’t want that to be an invitation to disrespect my authority. How do you know where to draw the line to make this distinction clear?

Has anyone had a Manager that does not work well with your ADHD? Im going through this right now and the way they communicate doesn’t match what I need. If I ask questions, they huff and puff. But then get upset if something is done and it doesn’t meet their exact expectations. It’s sucks that I don’t have enough interest to continuously focus on the projects, but now I have even less motivation because I dread dealing with my manager.

This is twice now in back to back weeks my boss has asked me where the disconnect was in our communications because I didn’t deliver on what “was asked”, even though I know damn well what was asked and what was done were the same thing. I’m not sure if he’s changing the meaning or isn’t communicating what he’s envisioning or what but it’s embarrassing to be called out like that, and to have people think you’re the dumb 23 year old.

Our community engagement is rising at an impressive rate but the CEO is focused entirely on vanity metrics. He’s making me feel like my work isn’t paying off and it’s disheartening.

So my junior lies a lot. About everything. They work hard and are reasonably smart, but they would swear a black pen is red and vice versa. When you catch them out, they keep digging. I like to think I’m very approachable and would never have an issue with someone not knowing something, needing longer on a deadline, asking questions etc. I’m writing this junior’s review and I’m wondering whether (and, if so, how) to bring this up?

Anyone else get frustrated when the partner brags about their billable hour amount for the month? Like congrats, you get to bill .2 for each piece of mail. You also get .2 for every letter your secretary types up as a "form letter" you never even look at. As an Associate, I don't get those easy/automatic hours.

Took my 2 year old daughter to the dentist and she found 4 cavities. We’ve been teaching her to brush her teeth before bed & after meals(unsuccessfully) so far.

We recently sleep trained our 7 month son. He went from waking up multiple times during night and taking only 30 minute naps 3 times during day (most cases nursed to sleep or rocked to sleep or took a drive) to sleeping 12 hours at night without interruption and two 2 hour naps and one 45 minutes nap during day. First time Dad and my 15 month old keeps running up the stairs at my in-laws place and they keep encouraging it. Our 5 month old started daycare about 5 weeks ago. We’ve already had to keep her home for 2.5 of those 5 weeks due to catching various illnesses (croup, rsv, brinchiolitis, etc). Both my wife and I have been sick most of that time as well (gotten it from the baby). Wife is thinking we get a full time nanny for the next 4 months to help the baby build antibodies. Cost aside, is this feasible / worthwhile to go thru the effort / finding the right fit, only for 4 months?

I am getting ready to send my 2 year old toddler to a toddler program next week for the first time. Have to fill out a form “bathroom waiver”, which is basically allowing teachers at the school to clean my child after a potty, including genital area. I feel uneasy about this but I know I have to let them… I assume all parents have signed such waiver?
