Career swap? I am a professional engineer and I work designing HVAC and plumbing systems for a large firm and we do projects all over the US. My grandfather is getting close to retirement and he owns a profitable smaller HVAC/plumbing/electrical company. My dreams/intent has always been to take over his business. However I am wondering if that is a good idea wanted some opinions for you guys. I would still be implementing engineering but probably not as much and smaller scale. Any thoughts?

Some people build huge businesses that way and make good money, so it sounds like a smart long play. Owning a profitable business, especially in trades, is a move with stability and upside. Yes, it’s less engineering, but it’s more strategy, leadership, and real control. I’d make the jump if you’re ready to go from designer to decision-maker. The freedom is worth the shift. Just be ready to learn the business side fast.

I'm having trouble. I have a client who is going from a climbing company, to a fitness company. They have a product that lets them expand from where they are. I am failing to sell them on the importance of strategy and taking a step back. Honestly, I don't even know that I'm sold on it. But I feel like it's important. Anyone have ideas on how to argue for this? Happy to share more info
