Had a night shift tech call in (night shift 10p-630a), and 2 supervisors couldn't get anyone to come in, so I eventually caved (even though I said no at first) and stayed an hour and a half later (was supposed to get out at 1030p, but stayed until midnight). The one night shift tech that was there was on their own for an hour and a half (from midnight to 130a while a day shift tech (who normally comes in at 600a) came in that early at 130a. No supervisors even offered to come in and cover🤔
its everywhere
It's a vicious cycle. People call in, they're not disciplined for fear that they leave or don't cover extra shifts. We settle for mediocre work and the attitude of "I've already done my 8, I'm just here to help". Supervisors already fill in during training, lunches, seminars, in-hours CE, call ins, and on top of that we have to finish whatever work our managers assign and employees still want us to cover more. Supervisors are salaried and more often than not low balled on salary so you get worked 50-60 hours all the time, not just occasionally. Add bad management and rules like can't have certain days off (Fridays, Mondays) or no more than 1 supervisor off. No wonder nobody wants to go into CLS; overworked, underpaid, nothing to show for all that work, and no work-life balance.
Absolutely agree with everything you stated. We are caught in the middle between employees and management and both want more. 50 to 60 hours is normal and my employees make more than I do with OT.
