Honda Odyssey owner here (we have number 3 coming in 3 weeks). Get a van whatever you do. Once your kids get bigger, they open suv doors very aggressively (I used to have a 4Runner) and there is no more comfortable ride and a mini van. We have taken ours on short road trips (3-8 hours) and it works great.
My wife will be the main driver and she seems uncomfortable with the bigger vehicles...I like vans but she doesn’t
We have 3 kids (twins + 1). The Honda Pilot is great with 2 back rows of seats, but more importantly, the first row is wide enough for 2 child seats and an adult to be comfortable, or 3 child seats (depending on the seats). Most SUVs we looked at were too narrow for us.
Chrysler Pacifica is a great minivan. On the suv side, the new Volvo and Mazda’s are solid. Other than Infiniti, the lux SUV’s are a bit overpriced in mind vs what you get though.
Honda Odyssey since your kids are so young. Auto doors are clutch and having more space btwn the kids doesn't hurt either.
I went new because of my travel and didn't want to worry about my wife getting stuck somewhere. That extra peace of mind was well worth it. I would/did go SUV when they get older/more self sufficient.
Thank you D1 🙏
Agree with the Odyssey or Sienna recommendation. Buy brand new because you will need it for next 10 years.
Used SUV
Do you know which ones are good used? Thanks for sharing 🙏
We just leased the new VW Tiguan. It’s great, perfect size
Kia Sorento is not bad. It’s not VW or Mercedes, but it’s cheap and quality is good
Expecting our second. Was considering the LR Discovery Sport but getting tempted by the Mazda CX-8 now....
Little 2 door, Mitsubishi Pajero Junior. It was a hand-me-down from my uncle so I didn’t buy it. It’s got us from A to B but we only use it on weekends. No car needed for commute or school run where we live.
S550 Mercedes
Agree with D1 on van auto doors when younger. We had both an Odyssey and a Scienna. The Scienna (in 09 at least) was much more ergonomically minded, which doesn't sound like a big deal but vans have lots of buttons.
I rented a Dodge Durango from Hertz today and it was NICE! so many features. Great ride and lots of space. And tons of things to stop kids from being annoying like built in TVs and ways to lock all controls in the back
