Yeah, better defined 5-bands seems like a superior solution. It seems odd to rank someone who just joined the firm at Ramping and then a more tenured person who had just an OK performance as Ramping (which is how I feel like I see tougher-scoring MCs use it). It seems like something in between would be more appropriate and more informative for that person. Similarly, on the upside, I don’t think a “Ramped” is appropriate for someone who is clearly performing better than average but not quite “exceeding”. The oversimplification seems to water down actual progress data points to the point it harms the reviewee from understanding how they’re really doing in the eyes of the firm.
Keep in mind that it's 3 levels per role. So it's 15 overall levels.
Should be 5 rating levels like it used to be, but HR had to justify their jobs so they redesign things that aren't broken every few years to give themselves something to do.
Similar to the Replicon moving to the horrendous SAP system.
