Curious what others think about our 3 level rating system in project reviews? Simplification is good, but it seems overly punitive and insufficiently capable of capturing progression IMO. Is this practice standard at other firms people have been at? Feels like 5-levels is more natural (like most ratings systems). Also, the forcing of “dev areas” seems to bias one to the negative and latch on to a person’s weakest moments. Has the firm always used this rating system in its current state?

Nope, we used to have 5 levels before the merger.. ;-)

Yeah, better defined 5-bands seems like a superior solution. It seems odd to rank someone who just joined the firm at Ramping and then a more tenured person who had just an OK performance as Ramping (which is how I feel like I see tougher-scoring MCs use it). It seems like something in between would be more appropriate and more informative for that person. Similarly, on the upside, I don’t think a “Ramped” is appropriate for someone who is clearly performing better than average but not quite “exceeding”. The oversimplification seems to water down actual progress data points to the point it harms the reviewee from understanding how they’re really doing in the eyes of the firm.

Keep in mind that it's 3 levels per role. So it's 15 overall levels.

Should be 5 rating levels like it used to be, but HR had to justify their jobs so they redesign things that aren't broken every few years to give themselves something to do.

Similar to the Replicon moving to the horrendous SAP system.

California peeps. I have a feeling I failed FAR, which is my last exam, but my score isn’t released until May 11. Can I submit the reapplication with the CA Board of Accountancy to speed up the retake and NTS process in case I failed? Or do I need to get my exam score first? I need to pass by mid June, else my REG score expires, hence the rush to resubmit the re-application.
