I think part of the issue is that people need to get better about establishing work boundaries and not letting things bother them. All jobs have the capacity to be toxic, that's just a fact. But we also can set boundaries with our jobs and demand better conditions, say no to work that isn't in our job description, and cut off toxic and gossiping and mentally unhealthy coworkers. I'm working on this right now!
The issue is when they hire younger people with more stamina who keep abusing you. You can’t really enforce boundaries if the employer does not accept your boundary. The job description itself is toxic
If pushed hard enough, I can usually find some kind of downside to a place. I wouldn’t say in my experience they are all toxic, though. I feel like I have some choice, just might take a while for me to get where I want to go.
