This 100% happens all the time and I would recommend using your own discretion as to what is urgent. They will survive.
Every request from one of my supports is labeled “urgent.” It’s less about the nature of the request and more about his inflated sense of self worth.
Office manager is the same. Every announcement/ request is labeled urgent, bolded, all caps. Some people need to feel important.
Prioritize your work the best way you know how. Some things you just have to roll with.
I know who is the individual who sends everything in all caps 🤣🤣🤣 - kills me every time. So unnecessary!!!
A favorite line from a colleague: “your lack of urgency is not my emergency.” Generally what I do is explain the timeline required or ask what they’re willing to compromise on.
If they push back, I say give me an hour to see what I can rearrange. I acknowledge that I can do it and then remind them that this was an exception to the rule. Moving forward, I need more time.
