Every time an interviewer asks me why I’m leaving my current role, I have to stop myself from saying because it’s a dumpster fire. I usually go with the looking for new challenges script, but I feel like they can see the lie. How do you talk about a toxic workplace or a bad fit without sounding like you’re the one who was the problem? Is there a professional way to say that my current company has no internal controls and is a lawsuit waiting to happen?

Hi friends of fishbowl! A year ago I told myself no more agencies. Then I got a job at another agency and I’m basically hating my life more than ever right now. This place is not good for me mentally and I’ve only been here for 90 days. I should’ve listened to my gut but here we are. So my question is what job titles should I be targeting as a senior project manager if I want to go to to client side?

UPDATE (RE: SoCal Assistant Controller Interview)

So after two weeks of waiting (and giving up on the idea of getting the job really), the recruiter got back to me.

They said due to month-end and quarter-end close they were busy and couldn’t get back to me as quickly for a “good update”.

The recruiter said the CFO enjoyed our call, she, the CFO, will call me next week directly to “discuss some final things”.

Not sure if Im hired or not, but are there any questions about the job, comp (cont.)
