I opened a Marcus HYSA based on the advice in here and now (too late) I'm freaking out that I allowed this "Plaid" thing to access my bank accounts to move the money over. And it requires linking all accounts, which seems unnecessary. Do folks think it is secure??

Plaid is very secure and commonly used amongst some of the largest financial institutions. Mi wouldn’t stress over it.

like

You don’t need to link all accounts. You can choose the ones you want. Also as SA1 said, Plaid is secure.

like

What are you actually trying to do? I am virtually certain that your bank does not need Plaid to transfer the funds to Marcus.

Plaid and similar tools like Yodlee are secure third parties who sit between financial institutions and finance software. They don’t have anything to do with the actual movement of the money.

To the extent they have your account credentials, they are a special read-only credential so they can’t do anything with them other than fetch the data to put into your software (Mint, Personal Capital, etc.), and they’re encrypted so even if someone did hack them, the credentials wouldn’t be useable anyway.

I have my accounts linked all over the place..so this is really comforting to read. Thank you 🙏💯💖

I was with Marcus but I had to migrate to GAF, seamless transition. Funding was almost instantaneous and you don't necessarily have to link your bank if you're not comfortable. Although I switched mainly because of the APY.

like

I used Plaid recently to move money. Worked out fine.

like

I won't trust anyone to link all my accounts no matter how secure it is in theory!

Linking one account is good.

Hi All. What is the best way to allocate 25 Lakh INR in savings into different investments to maximize returns. I recently moved out of India so Tax rebate is not a consideration for me. I already have 6 lakh plus invested in PF and MFs but I want to invest more as my money is getting depreciated in the savings bank account.

I also have an education loan with balance of 7 lakhs which I am planning to repay in lumpsum as there is no tax exemption now.

In the past I’ve wrongly thought that forgiveness brings restoration of relationships. But reconciliation requires everyone involved to respond -which is beyond our control. Forgiveness says I’m canceling that debt- it’s my marker & I’m tearing it up. I’m putting myself in Gods hands -Justice comes from Him. We mistakenly think that forgiveness is weakness as if we just capitulated. Forgiveness isn’t a sign of weakness- It takes strength to forgive. God tells us to forgive.

Other than the cars, they dont really spend money. For the married 🐠, how do you have the conversation with them that what they are doing isn’t enough? I've read about HELOC and cash out refinance to get a 2nd home but articles are so scattered that it gets confusing which is better in terms of tax benefits and immediate costs, etc. Anything others have found helpful that summarized how to get started would be great!
