Don’t take it personal at all. We do it with our associates too, it is absolutely an investment. Unfortunately law school typically doesn’t prepare grads for practical writing, so it’s more common than you think!
It’s definitely an investment - we use coaching to help associates in different areas.
Unless they are asking you to pay for the coach (I assume not?), there's no way you are failing. Law firms don't throw more money at losing bets.
I agree. It’s when they stop caring about your growth that you should be worried
They like you enough to try to help you. The most important thing to understand is that you need help. You are not failing at the job - you are failing at that part of the job, so they are getting you help. Pro-tip: Make sure you regularly report back to the person who assigned the coach about progress. It makes you look invested and proactive.
I would be a bit more skeptical of this flowery set of feedback. Coaching is like an improvement plan, no? The results can also be dubiously subjective. If I were you, I would ask around inside the firm to see who’s been through this before and “where” they are now.
Wrong take A1 but I admire your healthy sense of skepticism.
There are a lot of firms that try to pretend there’s a writing issue as an attempt to mask real issues. It’s a good thing if they’re investing in your writing. There are too many places that wouldn’t, even when that would be the sensible solution.
