Ok so I was in a job search support group today and the issue came up about one's aims when job hunting. They tell me it's not about me it's about what the employer wants.

Thing is for me it *IS* about me. The employer is just a vehicle for me to have the lifestyle I want. Why can't we be real about why we want a job? I want to be stimulated by what I do and be paid well. If a job isn't increasing my market value and doesn't pay well I'm gonna wanna to leave. What can I say, I'm a bad actress.

For those who hire new software developers, does it make you stand out if you get your certificate from a university instead of a coding academy (like coding dojo or something)? I have 4 years of experience in these but the place I have joined here in Canada doesn’t use these technologies/ERP systems. Just wondering if I could land a part time position (available Saturday/Sunday) just so that I stay updated and cutting edge? I've worked for the same company for the last 10 years or so. Right out of the Marines, into logistics. I've handled operations since day one and I feel like I finally should move onto bigger & better things. I have multiple years of working in Sysadmin/Tier 2-3 roles. Still experience trouble getting another SysAdmin role since I lost mine. I live in a state with plenty of work if sec-cleared. I cant get one.

Anyone work somewhere that could use an exceptional sysadmin, and that understands people aren't their past mistakes. Stuck back on helpdesk & want back to sysadmin

Looking at a complete pivot into a business analyst or even into a technical software role, but still trying to work out where to start.

Coming from an enterprise sales role and before that enterprise marketing. I've got a minor in accounting so have (very) basic formal commercial knowledge.

Would you recommend reaching out to recruiters to get an idea, completing a few online courses or building up my skillset on the side to eventually transition? I've accepted that there will be a paycut.
