Because empathy is not always a strength of people put in leadership positions?
I see this from both sides. As a young partner I want to continuously improve my firm and make things better for my team.
However, when you work really hard to give people great career opportunities and benefits and people still complain it can make you feel worn down and defeated. Which is why I think some partners end up saying “back in my day…”. I think the intention is to provide perspective, but usually it just makes people sound out of touch.
Ask Cheese Wagstaff what he thinks about back in the day.
You’re only working 55 hours? 🥲

or you can view it as things have improved but still a lot of improvement ahead to make this profession less miserable

100% agree, it just seems like the leaders “feel” they have done more than enough to make the profession more desirable, but people are still quitting and they ask “I gave them more money and less hours and they still don’t want to work here”.

That makes sense from the partners point of view. I appreciate you helping me understand your perspective.
