First session this morning and excited to learn and grown from this sport. For those with deeper knowledge and experience, what advice would you give to someone just starting the journey?

Hey ! Congrats on getting started !
1. Do some cardio, functional training on the side. and cross training if you can.
2. Remember JJ is the "gentle art" so do not use strength to get your way. You're rolling with a partner, not an enemy or a punching ball
3. Accept that'll you'll get your ass kicked and feel like you suck but that's okay because that's how you'll learn
4. Don't try to rush your progression thru the belts
5. Most important : do not try to learn everything all at once. Pick one or two submissions (if you've never grappled or done martial arts before) and hone them to perfection. Then move on to the next ones.
Have fun!!! ❤️❤️❤️

Depending on age, don’t be afraid to rest up when you feel you need it. Injuries are going to be part of the game
