For anyone who's interviewed for an in house role, would you find it very odd if you only met with the hiring manager and nobody else on the team, and was then offered the role shortly after? To me, that's a red flag...thoughts?

I wouldn't consider this a red flag. They could be restructuring or current members are transitioning roles.

Depends on a couple factors:
How many people are on the team and are they juniors? I wouldn’t expect my junior staff to have to interview candidates. In my current position, I only interviewed with HR and the hiring manager bc my team was still being built out and only the junior roles were filled.
How desperate are you for a job and is the pay good? You can always accept the job and continue interviewing elsewhere in case it doesn’t work out.

Is this client or agency side? Agencies tend to be extremely siloed, so a cross functional team wouldn’t at all be involved in the hiring process of another team. But if it’s a corporation, a cross functional interview may make a bit more sense if those teams are in constant communication and depend on one another

This happened to me and I later got the job. I think it was just an organizational thing at the time. Turned out to be a pretty good job. But I think that was better than what they do now which is like 3 panel interviews with everyone and their mom: account PM’s etc there just to interview a junior creative. Or idk, maybe there’s a better middle ground. But turned out ok for me.

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

Hi all!
Would love some insight on how you went from an HR assistant/coordinator to an HR Generalist. I’ve been in the HR world for 8 years, and only in the last 2-3 have I really done real HR work. The first company I was at didn’t have a solid HR team so I don’t really count that. I feel like I’m ready to take on more responsibility and learn more. And of course make more money.

I have looked into getting SHRM certification. But should I go back to school and get my masters in Hr?

Just became an ACD. Im in a limbo. Half of the time im being treated as a Super Senior AD and the other half im being treated as a Almost CD. Then when im scoped over work that my CD and I oversee, some people are asking me how does my role differ from the CD’s, as they tend to look at me as an unnecessary layer for approvals. In a way, i do the job so well that i get asked to do more AD projs and guide more projs — but then: wtf does my CD do? They mostly just 👍🏻what i direct n approve
