Yes I’d take a job at W+K.
I did do it, and it was fine. For big brands like McDonald’s, there are so many sub brands and initiatives, it offers waaaay more variety than u might think. I worked on multicultural, experiential, promotions, digital, family, young adult, different products... it was fine.
But wait, isn’t it still all yellow and whatever font they use? Doesn’t that get boring?
Oof. I just got off my second dedicated account. This one was 2.5 years. The last was 1 year. I only lasted this long bc they made a lot of work. Nike makes a lot of good work. McDonald’s makes a lot of work, but it could be good in wk’s hands. Fuck, idk. Said I’d never do it again, but if you’re offering, I’ll take either. When’s my start date?
I’ve done. I wouldn’t do it again. It kills your creativity in the end and it can rub off on your design style in a bad way.
If it’s Nike or McDonalds yes definitely. I’ve worked on both of those and I can say there are so many sub brands and sub products within that each one is very different and offers different challenges. For instance the work done on Chicken vs. Beef is actually very different. Or Breakfast vs Value.
1 brand only? nope! I NEED variety. Variety of projects allows you to grow.. experience new designs.. new technology.. new teams.. new tools.. etc.
Personally it doesn’t interest me. I like working across diff teams, across diff brands, across multiple types of projects.
depends so much on the agency and the account
I got hired at bbdo ny to work on AT&T years ago, but ended up only working on it about 25% of the time cuz there were, like, 10 teams on AT&T
that sucks. I got to work on foot locker, Sandy Hook, Exxon, a bunch of pitches... lots of stuff.
At every agency I’ve worked, where I was supposed to be part of an “exclusive” team that was dedicated to one account, I always ended up working in other stuff outside the account I was supposed to be dedicated to. It always happens. Sometimes by itself and sometimes you have to seek it out, but you’re not trapped by any means.
This hasn’t been my experience, where due to billing and retainers I was absolutely required to not touch another account. And it sounds like this potential acct is busy and I prob won’t have time to work on other things, and the client wants people exclusively focused on them. So I’d doubt I’ll get that flexibility, though I will ask in my interview.
Slightly over 2 months in on a big umbrella brand with different products and I’m already sick of it 🙃 then again it’s no Nike so 🤷🏽♂️
I’ll DM you
