For lack of a better word… how do you deal with sh*t talking in the office? Don’t get me wrong, I love to vent with my partner about work and client frustrations, all that. But my boss talks negatively alllll the time about some of our coworkers and it honestly just makes me uncomfortable because I don’t always agree. I get anxious that if I mess up, will she gossip about me too? She’s generally super nice and I get positive feedback, but because she’s my boss, not a peer, idk how to navigate.

She will gossip about you if she hasn’t already.

Don’t engage in that kind of conversation with her and keep it strictly professional.

Tell her nothing personal.

She needs to get a life.

This is great advice. Keep it neutral always.

Agree with Producer 1. She’s probably already bad mouthing you as well, as this is clearly her M.O. and it’s very unprofessional. Say nothing and try to steer the convo back to actual work. And, doubly agree, tell her nothing personal about you and don’t say anything negative about anyone to her. She’ll blabber that in no time.

Watch your back. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this. Don't engage and don't share any personal information with her. Hopefully she'll get the hint.

Cont’d: I also wonder if it’s her way of bonding, that we both hate this person together. But I honestly don’t dislike anyone I work with? Everyone seems hardworking and good at their jobs, even if they have bad days or differing opinions. The negativity is draining, to say the least
