No, probably only because I don't get an employee discount here. I get asked about it every once in a while and people are always surprised by the answer.
It's not your job making friendships transactional, it's your friends that are doing that.
I tell everyone that I know that, if I ever hit the lottery, I am calling them all up, and asking to borrow a small but not insignificant amount of money. And however they respond to that, that will be my response to me when they find out I won half a billion dollars or something. (I always thought $20, but I have had people tell me that I should make it $100).
The true beauty of that plan is, I will probably never hit the lottery, but will much more likely need to borrow $100. And no one (at least no one that is a transactional friend) will DARE tell me no. ;)
Anybody that is in retail goes through this. It’s super annoying and I stopped telling my loved one about my discounts I get thought my job because of this very reason. Ever since I stopped telling them about my discounts.. they stopped asking me about it.
I would tell them that you got in trouble doing that and you can no longer give them a discount. It's not you being the B it's your boss. If people ask after that, or don't feel bad that you got in trouble... Well then you know who your true friends are don't you hun? 👍🏻

Exactly! If they’re real friends, they’ll get it and won’t make you feel bad about it.

Yes! Most people only hit me up when they need something from my job. Lately I’ve been telling people the sales prices saves you more than my discount does. That way I’m not the middle person and they could just buy it themselves

Smart move! That way you’re helping without getting drained.
