2 weeks after I started my job (end of June), another large company in the same industry I had applied to back in April reached out about a more senior role with better pay (~20-30% more). I interviewed with 3 VPs, then they went quiet for 3 weeks.
Today they reached out saying they want to make me an offer. The thing is, the resume they have is from before I started my current job, so they do not even know I am working somewhere else now. They told me they want to put an offer together and are essentially asking me to provide documentation on whether I’m walking away from bonuses so they can make it up with a sign-on bonus. I would be walking away from some money (maybe 20k) but I am more concerned about the optics.
Should I come clean and say I just started somewhere else (and try to add the bonus stuff to the offer) — or choose not to mention the bonus now and only bring it up if asked? This new role feels like a better fit, although I still would want to talk again with the hiring manager and possibly the skip mgr to understand the stability of role, given they went quiet for so long.
Any insights you have (either from hiring team, interviewee, or recruiter) on what I should do would be appreciated!
