Has anyone else tried to give constructive feedback only to end up on someone’s blacklist? I once made a respectful suggestion to improve an onboarding process and found myself excluded from meetings for months. Now I don’t speak up unless it’s an emergency. How do you share ideas or push for change in toxic workplaces without immediately being labeled difficult?

This shouldn’t happen. Share the details, please of how you provided that feedback? And if you can tell us if you’re a male or female, and who the person you were giving the feedback to was male or female, older or younger, reporting role, etc..

I was recently asked for feedback from my manager in WorkDay. I gave positive and constructive feedback, as he’s new to the company. Idgaf if it bites me back. I have no expectations so whatever will be will be. I’m expecting a PIP, so just get on with it already.

Capital one 1, If you’re getting ready to go on a PIP feedback should’ve already been a loop that you’re involved in. Was that PIP a surprise? It is also end of year so in workday there are spots available for you to give feedback and get feedback, request feedback, from peers and stakeholders. You do not have to have those looped in with your manager. At least in the workday version that my company bought.
If the version your company has bought has that capability also, because it sounds to me like you definitely don’t agree with it, you’re angry about it , I understand.
if the feedback from your stakeholders and your peers is different than that of your manager, then you have it in writing don’t you?

It can be challenging—especially if the feedback was given unsolicited and if the person isn’t really open to constructive criticism. That being said, how and when you deliver matters, too.

Being excluded from meetings is an immature response either way. Even if you went off half-cocked, it’d be more appropriate to have a conversation with you over leaving you out of meetings. IMO, that person’s insecure.

I had this with someone when they were new and they took it personally, it took a long time for them to realise I was just trying to help them rather than see them fail

Companies don’t teach employees how to take and give feedback. That is part of the problem. When you’re taught and you know how to do both sometimes people take it personally even when you ask them, can I give you some feedback?.

If someone asks you that and you answer yes - don’t take it personally because they’re trying to help you.
