Has anyone gone through speech therapy for their 3-yr-old? My son was recently evaluated and qualified for free speech therapy through our state. I was planning to use the state program since it would be part of the IEP process, which could also make him eligible for pre-K next year. Without an IEP, we don’t meet the income requirements for pre-K. The other option is to go private through insurance, which I know has its benefits, but it wouldn’t help with pre-K eligibility. Which option is best?

I didn’t do speech therapy because I didn’t know about it. But highly recommend you get your child on an IEP, it makes it so much easier to advocate for their needs, the teachers you want, etc. What exactly is your question? Is it private speech therapy vs free speech therapy? If so, I would do the free speech therapy to get the IEP then also do the private services. There is no clause that says you can’t do both

My child’s private school has speech therapists available. I was hesitant to participate, but so glad I decided to have my son get the therapy. I don’t think the quality is different between private vs state services. It’s just important that the child is working with a therapist they like and feel positive about working with them. My son loves his speech therapist, and he really wants to impress her.

Some insurance doesn’t cover speech therapy unless it’s for rehabilitation. You could also find a private business that does it and just pay out of pocket. Also, some speech therapist that work in schools do it privately on the side.

We did speech therapy for our kid about that age. We went through insurance, and the speech therapist we used would actually go to his private Montessori pre-K to work with him. It made it really easy for us. To answer your question, I would’ve definitely done the free therapy and done the IEP if that had been an option in the state we lived in at the time.

It's definitely better to get the IEP and have the state cover speech services pre-K and into elementary school.

We got the IEP through the school district and got her speech therapy covered for her stutter, even as she attended pre-3, pre-4, and kindergarten at a private school. The IEP transferred with her to the charter school in 1st grade and remained till 3rd grade. I thought it should continue till 5th grade, but they disagreed. She only stutters now when she's tired and/or under stress. She's 20.

Thank you all so much for sharing your perspectives, I really appreciate it! I think my main confusion has been whether I’d be using the state option mostly for the benefit of securing a pre-K placement, even though I know our taxes fund the program. Since my insurance also covers speech therapy (with just a co-pay per session), I know he’d get the support either way—it’s just about figuring out which route makes the most sense. From what I’ve read above, most of you recommend the state-funded option, so I’ll keep exploring that path.

I think you can just request an IEP regardless and get evaluated before pre-K. I also think there may be a longer list for state services vs private but I could be wrong! We did private and my son “graduated” after a year of services and his speech therapist would come to his school and sometimes our home. He started at age 2.5 and it has made such a difference.

We requested an IEP evaluation before kindergarten and are getting one this year. The integrated preschool only goes half day so while it’s heavily discounted we would still have to find childcare for that extra time. Worth checking what your state’s pre-K hours are and if they take any weekdays off/ do early release so you’re not scrambling for childcare

Best thing I have done for my daughter! We started speech therapy around age three. She exited speech therapy in the 2nd grade. She also has an IEP, which they want to take her off of either this year or next. I’m unsure about that.

Hi everyone,

I have got the ey hr mail stating i should provide him with aadhar card, information sheet and latest resume for a audit and assurance contract for 6 months as iam a semi qualified CA.

Here my question is should i take this opportunity. Cause since this is only for 6 months. After that, what i can do, where should I try to get the job?

In mid size firms, people won't pay as much as big 4 pays.

Should I take it or am I making a mistake by taking this.
