I definitely wouldn't be trying to switch industries in this job market. I have been looking for a job since October and have only had two interviews. The job market is REALLY rough out there.

It all depends on what industry you’re leaving and which one you’re looking to get into. Also if you’re ok possibly taking a pay cut

This is good point. Other than the possibility of less options in that field, the pay discrepancy may be bigger than expected
Are they really hiring? I've applied over 300 different industries and I have had no response.
If you're in Europe walk in personally instead of applying online, this might work for you.
I'm outside Europe for my case.

I’ve seen people do it, but it seems easier when they can clearly translate what they already do into the new field. The hardest part is convincing someone you are not starting from zero just because the industry name changed. It definitely can happen, but it usually takes being very intentional about how you frame your experience.
