I would think that if you get involved in industry /market events such a speaking on topics you sell services for, issuing white papers etc the LinkedIn marketing vehicle should do the trick. You need to do something /get involved in something first though.

Agree with P1. I constantly get pinged by these firm on LinkedIn. And it’s a waste of time to even respond to them.
I created my own website to bring all of my awards, articles, videos from speaking engagements, etc, to one place...LinkedIn is just not good for all of the different mediums and showcasing certain things. That said, I wouldn't pay a PR firm.
It doesn’t translate to better $$
P1 is 100% correct, if you don’t have a brand, a PR firm can’t do anything for you. Focus on doing the work vs. trying to bs people about who you are.
