Have you ever been asked to work on a product you felt was unethical? How did you deal with the situation?

Yes, it was actually a product for an industry I didn't agree with. I excused myself from the project and recommended one of my coworkers that I knew didn't have the same concerns. If it is truly unethical, it is important to bring that up to the organization. Sometimes they are not aware of the unintended consequences that could occur if others feel the same.

Yes, and I refused to do it. They can let me go for all they want. I will not do anything that I know that is unethical, illegal, or in my conscious that I know is wrong. I will not and can not do it.

Where you at, my Wells Fargo peeps?

Omg yes!!! I ended up leaving - but took me 6 months. First I was just really uncomfortable with what I was being asked to do but couldn’t figure out that it was purely unethical. The business was implementing dark patterns to make the customer underutilise because of friction in the product.

When I would bring up concerns in meetings I noticed two things: a. The response line was that it was ‘normal’ for businesses to make profit off of underutilisation (the business was a subscription model) and 2. I was the only one in the room who would speak up. After the meetings ppl would call me and tell me that they’re also uncomfortable but wouldn’t dare to speak up in front of leadership.

Once I realized that there’s no discussion to be had and this was direction of the company (I tried speaking with the CEO and was told that this is a time to ‘shut up and do what I’m told’) - so I ended up leaving the company within 6 months of that meeting. Took time to figure out next steps and I wasn’t in a place where I could afford to just quit.

Was traumatic but ultimately I learned a ton from the experience since it forced me to recognise the dissonance and do something about it.

My advice to you - document everything. When the time comes for you to leave the company will be incentivised to give you a package so you’re not a liability for them.

Hello Guys,

I am in a super good position at Jellyfish as a Director with a good room in terms of growth. Great responsibilities, work life balance and I strongly love my job. However, there is an opportunity to join Google Dublin as an Agency Development Manager (level 4) with strong salary, new challenges, different role and responsibilities etc. I HAVE A STRONG DOUBT about a trade off: is better to have a strong margin of growth and a good position or join Google with the above conditions?

What’s the symbol that you can type in a cell so you can input a text, but that text would not appear in the spreadsheet? I want to describe the formula without using a text box, which uses more space.

The equivalent of this is in SQL, you can use the apostrophe in the beginning of and end of a text. That text will not affect the function of the query, but that text can be seen if you proofread the query.

I have accepted my sexuality and found peace with the long battle of wanting to be something not what I actually am. On one side I have a lot of pressure around me being gay and trying to get a PR and get out of India, on another side I have a lot financial issues. I’m trying so hard to focus on work and to meet the expected bar for my current role. But the office politics here is toxic and always putting me down. Just wondering whether things will get better ever.
