I have been in a similar situation and not the same. It was difficult for me to move up even though I took additional tasks and demonstrated that I was over skilled for the role.
When I could not move internally, I left the company and earned 71% more with a better title. The lesson learned for me is “Start the company or role at the level of my skill. AND, make sure the new company has accessible internal mobility.”
Thank you for sharing. I'm sorry you went through something similar. I'm casually job hunting, so I'll start applying the same lessons to future roles.
I was hired at a higher level than person I reported to at BAH. I was told “you were brought on to expedite her learning curve and justify her promotion” my next project there was the same thing. When I asked to leave the practice, I was put on a PIP. The client wrote a email thanking me for the additional services I provided and my senior leadership changed it to her name before forwarding. They were all of the majority
That is wild! Companies that do this are the worst. I hope you found a better job elsewhere.
Not that I know of. However diff candidates ask for different salaries & salaries are also connected to unless both hires have the same boss? The same start date. As a person who deals with scopes & budgets. Each year a budget is cut or given more. That’s the only way to properly access. Salaries are confidential. Now only certain cities NYC being one with salary range transparency. However each candidate can say higher or lower. I would just interview. If you got this job you can land another job. Good luck!
In my situation my colleague and I have the same boss and our start dates were a few weeks apart. My salary was on the higher end of the range they posted on the job description. So the whole thing seems unfair to me. I've started applying for jobs so I'm hoping I get a new job soon.
