I'm not a big fan, which is a bummer because pretty much everyone in my family loves all-inclusive hotels and cruises (basically, an all-inclusive on the water). They like being able to just turn off their brain and relax. I, on the other hand, really enjoy experiencing different cultures and trying new things. Which, like you said, can be really difficult when you're locked away on a resort. I will keep going to them because my family insists and seeing them is the priority, but it's definitely not my preference.

Totally get that. It's tough when your travel style doesn't match your family's. It’s great that you still prioritize time with them, but I hope you get a chance to sneak in a trip that’s more your speed!
100% depends on what you want from the experience!
It seems like all-inclusive resorts exist so you don’t have to leave, it’s more for relaxing in a comfortable, beautiful environment where someone else takes care of your needs. I’m not sure this kind of travel (although very valid) is for expanding your horizons or makes you a more worldly person. It’s for chilling and relaxing.

Exactly - totally depends on the goal. Sometimes you want adventure and culture, other times you just need to unplug and be taken care of. Both have their place, just different kinds of value.
We stayed at our first all inclusive a few years back and I’ll never do anything else! Can totally understand what you mean though, it does kind of lock you into a curated experience. Everything there wasn’t top notch by any means but it was just nice to have one and done for us.

I can see that! Sometimes the convenience and ease of an all-inclusive just can’t be beat, even if it means trading a bit of variety or top-tier quality.
I've had friends who spoke well of things like that, but I have zero interest in traveling like that. I'd rather go somewhere and experience where I am, I just don't see the point of being in what's essentially a walled garden. I like to do some research and venture out and find my way around. I would regard an all-inclusive hotel, or a cruise for that matter, like being in a cushy prison.

I am with you! If the whole point of travel is to explore and experience something new, being in a “cushy prison” kind of defeats that. There's something so rewarding about wandering, discovering, and really connecting with a place.
