Have you heard of Cognitive Shuffling? I have used similar tactics to calm myself when having a panic attack and have walked students through the "pick a color and find it throughout the room" scenarios, but to use Cognitive Shuffling to shut my mind down at the end of the day...I may have to try this. Check out the article in the link and then answer this question: "What techniques do you use to shut all the thoughts and brain-racing off at night?

I have a student who is constantly having outburst. I'm thinking about having him try it when he starts spiraling
Thanks for sharing! Fortunately, I am a great sleeper. I easily go right to sleep every night- mostly due to complete exhaustion! But I know people who struggle. Will definitely share!

You truly are fortunate. I'm that person who has to totally decompress every night.
Several months ago, I read an article about how they taught members of the military to go to sleep quickly. It’s really the same thing, but they didn’t call it cognitive shuffling. Think of all the words you can that start with the letter A, then B, etc. it’s amazing how few you can actually think of lying in bed at night! But, it almost never fails to put me to sleep in five minutes or less.
Please let me know how it works for her!
