I had this happen once. I accepted an offer, and the day before I was to start, got a way better offer from a company I really wanted to work at. I simply emailed the first place and let them know I would not be accepting the offer after all. You have to do what is best for you.
Yes. You really need to do what’s best for you. The company you quit before starting will just move on. Don’t overthink it.
Agree! They are self interested and you should be too
Started a new job and 1 day in, on a week orientation out of state I was offered a position with $30K more.
Didn’t think twice.
Take care of yourself first. They will move on.
I would either 1- tell the company about your other offer and see if they will match the pay increase or 2- email the company stating that you are no longer going to take the job. You have a right to doing the best for you. Congratulations on the new offer.
I haven't, but it's not terribly uncommon. I can think of three friends who have done that at least once. It comes with risks because you are going to burn that bridge, but sometimes it's worth it.
When I was fresh out of college I got an “offer”, then after the fact realized it was a pyramid scheme and I just didn’t show up for orientation 😂
I haven't personally, but totally would if a better offer came along
reneged internships & first job offer out of college. mostly because of exploding offers
I’ve heard of it for sure
