Citi - SVP Salary Expectations for Tech / Controls
Looking at some SVP roles for technology / controls in the Southwest region. Glassdoor indicates $185-240k as range base comp, and target of $185-205k for average base. Is that accurate?
Glassdoor also targets $40k for variable comp. average. Is that accurate?

Nice compensation, but absolutely fuck moving to CA.
Sounds like a prime opportunity to GTFO looking purely at direct compensation and the change in responsibilities. Your pretax retirement contributions are jumping by 33% at minimum and the state income tax wont eat a significant portion of the raise.
Some questions:
- do you already pay state income tax in your current location?
- Do you own a home? Will you be able to afford to buy a home that appeals to you in your new location (if this is a priority of yours).
- is the new location an attractive place to live, to you? How does it compare to your current location?
- are you going to have a similar number of direct reports at your new position?
- have you had direct reports in the past? Frankly I'd run for the hills if I'd never managed anyone before then had to be responsible for 7 people. You start having problems handling your own work and supervising them once you get beyond 3-4
The only real concerns I have is that the bonus isn’t a set percentage of the base salary. Also, I’m fine moving away from family. My wife, who is a teacher would be coming out in late May. Currently I am negotiating with the new company’s HR about relocation expenses. I have already negotiated 6 months of temporary housing. I also get either a company car or car stipend every month. To be honest, I’m pretty conservative by nature but my 45 minute interview lasted 2 hours when they flew me out there a few weeks ago. We seemed to vibe really well.
Do you have kids? 245k anywhere is good. But it sounds like Space X gig or Silcon valley and rent can be pretty high.
If you are single go for more money. If you have kids a few more things to think about.
Riverside is affordable for socal!
Do you think your current employer is going to counter the offer? It might be something to consider in your decision making as it might complicate things
Finally asked my supervisor about a raise. He said, “You’re doing a great job but increases have been getting shot down”. I found out my supervisor (a vice president) is making around $225k. Maybe best to move on
