At what age did you hit 200k in base? Asking because I believe this the salary I need to achieve my desired savings rate and quality of life on NYC. (No MBB please, my friend is 25 and is already mid 200s)
What do you guys think of TikTok? Have a pending offer but less pay and no equity. Currently with MBB.
I have an engineering background, graduated last December, and accepted MBB over FAANG (product design & manufacturing engineering offers) . This bowl’s focus on exiting consulting into FAANG (cont)
A close friend (a non-US citizen/resident) received a full ride from HYP, got a MBB job offer in the U.S, but couldn’t stay on due to an H1b rejection...so they took their free HYP degree and left the country. Shouldn’t the U.S be trying to keep foreign nationals like my friend?
Can someone please tell me about hours at MBB. My SO regularly works until 10:30pm Mon-Thurs and I can’t tell if that’s the work or if he’s just not good at prioritizing and protecting work-life balance.
Serious question: do I *need* MBB on my resume to have good exit ops from consulting? I have an M7 MBA, but struggled to land interviews because I didn’t have big brands on my resume (confirmed by recruiters). I wouldn’t be surprised if most/all F100 and FAANG hired MBB only.
I want to exit to MBB. Started summer 2019 out of undergrad and D’s not a good fit for me. When is the best time to apply to MBB given the current economic situation and MBB’s hiring cycles (understand it may be different by firm).
What’s the real difference between Tier 1(MBB) and Tier 2(Deloitte,etc.) consulting? I am planning on getting my MBA but would like to know what the main differences are between the two sets of firms
If I go to a non-HSW M7, what are my chances of getting a post-MBA offer from MBB? Just looking for offers/applicants numbers (ballpark is okay).
Yeah but aren’t they already hired somewhere by someone? Not like they’re out on the street undiscovered by no one. What is MBB on about?
How to not feel inferior in a relationship? The guy I'm seeing makes 3 times my salary, is a P at MBB, while I am just an SC at a boutique firm no one really knows about. He is a great person and never says anything about it but I can't help feeling tiny next to him... I think the world of him, and just feel bad about myself, to the point that I feel he's out of my league and I don't deserve him. I know that's not the right way to think. I just can't shake this feeling...:(
Do you consider 175k total comp with 5 yrs of consulting experience good? I know its not great for mbb....i also dont have an mba
Is working at a Big 4 really that “prestigious”? If so, why? I recruited with Big 4 (rejected by MBB) during college, but ultimately chose ACN for the pay and the culture (at least within the campus recruiting team). Did I make the wrong decision long-term?
MBB consultants - are you also finding it hard to find a exit op you like? Can’t tell if I’m just a bad interviewee or times are tough...
It’s been a year- and I’m ready to leave. Do y’all think I should stick around longer? Is 1 YOE at MBB not good enough?
My dream job has always been MBB but only got into tier 2. Not enjoying my current firm and know MBB has what I want. Worth it to chase for MBB down the line? Perhaps enter into industry first?
In 10-15 years time will we still be talking about MBB as the so called “tier 1” of management consulting? Will McK still be the biggest and best known? What changes do you envisage?
If all the top consulting firms made anonymous decks or gave anonymous pitches to a client, eg no branding and the client did not know which firm made which deck, do you actually think that the client would prefer MBB? Is MBB actually coming up with better/more innovative solutions? I feel like I see many repeat or slightly altered solutions on almost all of my cases, are these really things that people at Deloitte/Accenture etc aren’t coming up with?
I hoock up with a guy while recruiting to MBB. It was more than one night stand, we met in several other occasions, and I felt in love. Now I am considering changing firms to be close to him. Advice?
After seeing the MBB 80+ work hours post, I’m wondering, is MBB unfriendly to mothers of young children? I was planning on applying after MBA (target school) but now I’m slightly deterred...(cont)
Hello I am a complete excel noob who just joined MBB where excel seems to be the lifeblood. Any useful classes / courses I can take? Esp on VBA, it seems so efficient!
I didn’t get MBB but I’m comforted by the fact I only work 40-50 hours a week and am rarely on travel projects. Downside is brand and TC is probably 25% less than MBB friends (250 v 200, small bonus)
There is a lot of extreme intellect and talent in consulting. Harvard kids are obsessed with MBB and (ultimately) WORKING FOR SOMEONE ELSE. For those of you this most certainly applies to, has it ever occurred to you that extreme wealth and success is only a few steps away - if you only took the leap? The leap to start your own thing and forgetting artificial prestige? Thoughts and examples?!
Stop being so obsessed with only FAANG for Tech. It's like being obsessed with only MBB for consulting and thinking everything else isn't real consulting😉.
MBB folks, do you honestly think there is any legitimate correlation between GMAT scores and ones ability to perform on the job?
People who have made it to the perceived “top/best” place in their career field/education (MBB, FAANG, top PE fund, HSW, etc): do you feel satisfied? Have you had to recalibrate your goals? If so, what are those goals?
Is it true that MBB does not allow their consultants to mock with potential candidate? A friend of mine went to MBB and told me she can't do a mock because it is against company policy?
Random thought - MBB travels business class, top hotels, etc. If you join early stage, well funded start up, are the travel perks comparable?
How different is the quality of work delivered between big 4 consulting and MBB? Are the two really that far off?
Why does everyone put Tech / FAANG on such a pedestal, claiming it’s better than MBB. Sure, the comp and WLB may be better, but you won’t be doing as meaningful and impactful work e.g. Govt Covid response, Gates foundation projects, industry defining projects in the space of a few months etc
Resigning at a Big 4 to go to a MBB. Same practice. Any tips on resigning? This was my first job out of undergrad so not sure what to expect! Thanks in advance for your advice/ pointers 🐠!
Wanted to share with everyone who's trying to get into MBB. Y'all can share your experiences here and hopefully there are even a few MBB people who join to answer questions
What are consulting firms who do major public sector work ? Mbb and / or boutique firms both welcome. Thanks!
Are MBB sponsored MBA students expected to return to their home firms for the summer between their two years? I know you're obligated to go back post-MBA, but what about the summer in between?
What are the odds of switching from tax to MBB without getting an MBA? Undergrad/grad degree from a target, but master is accounting
What are the top finance skill sets/competencies that are in demand at MBB? MBA student looking to develop a specialization
Has anyone moved from one MBB to another 1 year in, due to the kind of projects? I have constantly been staffed on an industry/projects, I am hating and don’t see myself lasting long at this job if the situation continues. Thinking longterm, would it be unwise to seek a switch? My performance isn’t a problem but given the office location and business, it’s unlikely I can explore other areas now.
What are the transferable skills from an experienced licensed structural engineer to a management consultant at MBB? Can anyone guide me how to make this career transition?
Those who have went from big4 to MBB (or other way around), how would you compare your work life balance and overall satisfaction? Disregarding money, are you happy with your switch?
For the MBBers out there, if you had to join one of the other MBB firms, which would you pick and why?
I’m interested in jumping to MBB at some point, likely continuing my 10 YOE serving gov’t clients. What skills, experiences, knowledge, and expertise should I focus on to improve my candidacy?
MBB 🐠: Working hours aside, do you enjoy your work - including culture, colleagues, and environment? Do you find it intellectually stimulating?
What to do when your client constantly throws you under a bus? I.e. Tells you to one thing and in the meeting ask for something vastly different, then blame you for not having it?
Opinions on Crowe’s healthcare practice? Interviewing for senior staff consultant position if anyone has a comp range on hand
Got job offer with 30% bump. Should I accept the offer? I have 2 years remaining on H1B. My existing firm has just started perm process (contd)
San Francisco, LA or Seattle - any recommendations on which city is preferable living wise? I know Washington has no income tax, but the housing cost has been climbing over the past few years
Bartender at CLT is frustrated that he now has to clarify that he is not a white supremacist because he has tattoos and has shaved head. I said welcome to the black/Muslim world
Salary benchmark: CHI SC FS focused. 5.5 years experience (joined entry level 2x promoted, promo expected year end) Current: 110k. Restricted in job search due to visa. Any insights 🙏🏼🐠?
Can I create a practice exam similar to what I’d see the day of the exam on the new Roger website? I’m only seeing up to 36 questions per test now
EY fishes, could you please give me a range of a seniors salary in EY Advisory Services - IT Risk Assurance practice?
Is it possible to get a job in Canada by applying from abroad without a work permit/ permanent residency? You apply for job and one Canadia employer gives you an offer and then you tell them you can't work and they will have to wait until you apply for work permit.
Considering a move to an in house staff/senior accountant job with my CPA. Does anyone have an idea of what kind of salary to expect?
Any single ladies in the DMV (late 20s to early 40s) care to join me for a drink and dinner on Friday, the 29th of September in Alexandria, VA to help me celebrate my 39th birthday since my birthday falls on Tuesday, the 26th?
