Evening all, planning to move out to the UAE from Western Europe in the next year and looking for a role in consulting. Will have 3.5 years in big4 consulting (public sector and consumer goods projects mainly) and an MSc in Strategic management from a top European b-school. What are my prospects for MBB/T2 post-MBA Associate roles? Any insight/thoughts/advice welcome!
Would you go from a corp dev and strategy role in industry into MBB? Why or why not? My brother was at a Tier2 before his current role. He wants to pursue MBB to get the brand and because he thinks his growth is slowing, both in compensation and opportunity relative to consulting. Pay will be about the same assuming he gets a post MBA role. He has better hours now. Management likes him. I don't think it makes sense but he won't listen to me. Help me convince/tell me I'm wrong please?
Currently in IB and just got a first round at MBB. Never done a casing interview before & would love some tips on what to expect or some good resources for me to learn casing in 2-3 weeks. Much appreciated in advance!
Debate happening with friends right now - how much do Partners at MBB make? Let’s say - starting salary and then all the way to the most senior level?
From talking to students at multiple M7 schools, it seems like all of the BB/MBB/FAANG companies recruit at most if not all of the schools . So if you're planning on recruiting for one of these, is there really a major difference in career opportunities between each school? Asking because it seems like some schools are specifically known for finance vs consulting vs tech, but if the companies are all recruiting at all these schools, the differences don't seem as pronounced to me.
Thoughts on Simon Kucher & Partners? Reached out to me for a role, would be a significant level jump. Comp would be comparable to current comp at MBB. Pricing and growth strategy seem really interesting too - want to get further thoughts on people there, WLB, client mix, etc.
I recently graduated from undergrad and got rejected from a position. The feedback was that my communication is aggressive and direct, not polished enough. What are ways I could work on this? English isn’t my first language but sometimes that’s just an excuse for myself. I really want to improve my communication skill, as that was also one of the reasons I didn’t make it to MBB last fall. What are some resources I can utilize? Has anyone hired a speech coach or did training revolving this?
How is the risk practice at MBB? Do you work on the same work as big 4 risk? Where do most people come from.. ie ex big 4, internally trained, ex bankers etc. What would help a candidate from a big 4 risk transition to a position in risk at mbb? I'm going to be entering a big 4 in risk, but would like to switch to mbb at some point in my life.
Hi 🐠- I have 2 interviews (1 first round, 1 final round) to be scheduled with MBB and got postponed due to COVID. Months later I found PM work really interesting and now thinking about devoting time to learn PM and switch. Currently at B4 and MBB used to be my dream. If you were me, will you continue to practice cases to get into MBB or switch gear for PM? Will MBB name get me a better PM job in tech ($, name etc)I don’t have any technical/coding background, but ultimately want to work in tech.
How can I reach $1M comp by the time I am 40? I am currently 30, doing strategy work at a tech firm. Ex-MBB
Got an offer from a T2 firm but I will also go through an MBB interview. What happens if I sign the offer now and decline it later if I get an MBB offer?
In reference to a previous post by KPMG: Why are MBB people so hesitant to refer other people? Is it just a skewed sample on this app of people not wanting to refer or is there something different about their hiring process? It seems like people at every other consulting firm except those 3 are happy to look over someone’s resume and potentially refer them.
Hi Fishes, I need your help. I am in negotiation phase with an MBB firm. I am happy in my current firm in terms of work but I am quite underpaid (13L) given my experience of 6 years(Non MBA). This is after a raise and promotion in October. Will it be ethical to produce my offer in front of my current firm and ask for match if they offer me one or it's best to walk away?
Has anyone from boutique LS firms successfully exit to MBB healthcare/ LS directly as an experience hire (not from campus)? How does your path look like, or what is your YOE or entry point into MBB?
Have joined MBB as an experienced hire and they've started us with their target school grads. The interview process was so difficult for us, yet the standard for their grads seems so low. They're teaching excel from absolute scratch???
For the young wondering IF they belong in BIG 4 or MBB Baby you rock... https://www.instagram.com/tv/CJ7hUeMB3p7/?igshid=t4jzxftcfp80
What does travel look like for mbb? Think there will be remote options in the future? Or even one week on one week off
Trying to exit from my boutique to MBB, but I'm some rusty on case interviews and am starting to panic. Interview is March 5, does anyone have any methods they swear by to get the rust off and into tip-top shape?
Anyone willing to share how big 4 consulting experience pre-MBA helped them leverage a larger comp package post-MBA at MBB and tier 2 firms? Also, what made you come back to consulting vs pivoting to tech or finance?
💥New hypothetical, different scenario than one I saw: Let’s say I’m a MBB/Big4 recruiter (experienced hires), we give an offer, candidate accepts, but 3 weeks later we learn they’re still interviewing with a competitor. Do I automatically rescind our offer to him/her given its “at-will” and legally can? Or do I wait to see what they do / at least have a discussion with them first?
How much/if at all would you pay per hour for genuine, thoughtful career guidance /interview prep from an mbb final round interviewer?
Would two promos look better at B4 vs one promo and then moving to LMM PE pre-mba or some sort of Corp dev / strategy role in industry? Post mba goal is PE Ops or MBB
This might be a stupid question but... I haven’t been able to get a haircut due to covid restrictions in my city. All are closed and have been for over 2 months, my hair is a disaster and I have 2x mbb interviews coming up. I have 2 options really, shave the head (I’m ok with that) just leave as is and make a joke about it. I’m worried it’s going to look unprofessional the way my hair is now because it’s “unkept”. Am I being worried for no reason?
Applied to an MBB with a referral over a week ago, if I withdraw my application to make a resume edit, would I lose the referral if I resubmit?
Advice for someone applying to MBB as an *early career* experienced hire with a recruiter interview lined up? Any nuggets of wisdom would be incredibly appreciated!
A week or so ago, someone shared a stacked bar chart of each MBB/Big 4 firm that highlighted the percentage of consultants that say they work 40, 50, 60 hours etc a week at each firm. I have searched endlessly to find that chart but haven’t had any luck. Not even on google. Does anyone know the chart I’m referring to?
How hard is a MBB interview? Coming from a different firm - I am genuinely nervous especially for the case study.
I’ve gone from no interviews in 2020 to 2 interviews with MBB’s in 2021. Maybe this is my year😆. This isn’t a flex, just super excited and don’t want to tell my family/friends yet.
Has anyone on fishbowl got an RFE for an H1B transfer to MBB? Would be grateful for any advice navigating
Mbb/tier2 🐠 - chances of getting an interview without a referral with a strong resume (no wow factor nor brand names but a lot of decent experience) ~2yoe if it matters
Has anyone exited to a FAANG equivalent (uber, airbnb, Tencent) from Big4, then further exited into MBB? Interested in seeing if it’s a possibility
Any switch to PE from a non-MBB firm with no experience in M&A? How have you reframed your experience and/or get the attention of headhunters?
How hard is it to go from top-ivy to MBB? Any sort of stats/rates/conversion would be helpful. And by top ivy I mean HYPS. Trying to understand the competitiveness when you are already at the top.
How many people in MBB probably don’t deserve to be there relative to their peers? 👀 does anyone skate by into it
Does it make sense to turn down an MBB lateral if I’m happy where I am? Pay wouldn’t be better, happy with the projects I’m currently staffed on.
MBB fish, why is it so hard for everyone to collaborate holistically and bring the connectivity of the combined work up? Just joined and everything seems to be done in silos due to rigid ownership.
Does the “best” MBB (culture, projects, reputation with clients, etc) vary by city? Curious about tier 1 cities in the US
Is there anyone here who did a top Mba but then went back to work for two years for their original employer but then after that two years ended up exiting to either MBB or a faang type company?
If someone keeps trying, will they eventually make it to MBB (assuming they have reasonable qualifications)? Or are there some people who will never make it despite their best efforts?
What advice would you give? 5 years MBB from undergrad (non-US), have an M7 offer, have MBB sponsorship offer, but I’m not enjoying the job anymore and dread the thought of another 2 years post-MBA
During the past recession, did MBB lay-off folks outside of performance? I assume up or out maintains turnover?
How does “transitioned/counseled out” work at MBB. Do you get a certain amount of time to find a new job and does the new prospective employer know that the person is/was transitioned out
See people posting about 150k with 7+ YOE and think wow I’m really overpaid. See people with 4 YOE MBB making 200k and think wow I’ll never feel well paid
What does the recruitment process look like for PhD candidates for the Big 4 and tier 2 firms? I know MBB recruits PhDs, but am unclear about the rest.
If all the top consulting firms made anonymous decks or gave anonymous pitches to a client, eg no branding and the client did not know which firm made which deck, do you actually think that the client would prefer MBB? Is MBB actually coming up with better/more innovative solutions? I feel like I see many repeat or slightly altered solutions on almost all of my cases, are these really things that people at Deloitte/Accenture etc aren’t coming up with?
I am a year out of school and looking to apply to MBB from Big4. Will I be screened out b/c of a GPA below 3.5?
Going on almost 4 years in ops (~2 non metro, 2 nyc) and skipping retaking lvl 3 to job hunt. Should I just take a new job or spend time/effort on something I want? 0/2 interviewing for gigs I wanted
🐟 s knowledgable of the Chicago real estate. Do you think buying a condo makes sense if I'm only certain of a 3 yr time frame! Things to consider: exit costs, maintenance fees, don't want to..
PwC 🐟 if you leave the firm (quit or laid off) do you have to return the firm sponsored phone? Or can you keep the device itself and give up the number?
Currently work as a credit analyst at a mutual fund, really want to switch to equity research. I haven’t had good luck getting interviews. I am taking the 3rd level of the CFA in May, hoping to pass then. Will finishing the CFA help me get more interview opportunities? Would be great to hear from charterholders or any others !
I’d be a lifetime platinum / diamond member of every hotel chain globally if the number of same / similar SPG/Marriott posts here were linked to my name....
How much power does HR Hiring Managers have? Think I screwed up interview with hiring manager but went great with the actual Managers. Been a few days with no response. Everything went well at first
what have you to say about taking 1-2 week break before starting in a new company? I can’t pass the thought of the opportunity cost ( losing a half month salary)
I am interviewing for companies i am not interested in just for practice. At what point do I let them know i am not interested? After final round? After getting an offer?
I already received my CPA certificate and have worked at big 4 almost 2 years. I am considering to pursue master degree. Any suggestions?
Has anyone been referred to amazon, got an interview directly with hiring manager and skipped that first HR interview? Does that mean anything?
No one: Consultants in July/August: “Thank you for your message. I am currently on PTO until the day after you need me. For urgent requests, please contact me via phone, but I won’t actually respond"
Ok, protocol question: I saw a posting for an Art Director position at a very small shop. I am overqualified for it, but I want to start a dialogue with them about more senior opportunities. Do you recommend I a. Cold email them, b. Visit their office and try to meet someone face to face, or c. Apply in hopes of having them contact me and then try to bait-and-switch?
