I'm applying for a job and there's a line item where they ask for desired compensation. Since the job posting doesn't include one & that role in particular doesn't appear on Glassdoor, is it ok to write something like "negotiable" or "based on budget allocated for this position"? Or should I just include a range? I don't want to ruin a chance at a higher salary range by selling myself short off the bat. I haven't applied to jobs in years so any advice you all could provide would be appreciated!

Started my career at a B4 tax. Throughout my 6 years thus far I've been ambitious, always over achieving and striving to be a partner one day. Some part of me still wants to make it there. Recently started looking outside of PA and got a great industry offer, money is good and the position seems interesting. Now I am second guessing myself. I always considered former colleagues who exited as "didn't have what it takes". I don't want to be that. Conflicted. Please share any words of wisdom.

Interviewed for an industry position last week and asked my interviewers what my hours would look like. They answered "uhh 40?" with a confused look. I explained to them my crazy hours in PA and why I wanted to ask, and they just laughed and said that no overtime is expected. Either public accounting really screwed up my view on work hours, or this is just an abnormally relaxed company.
