Sending you good thoughts, OP - I know it’s not a great feeling, and he will probably feel so dumb about it. I will say look at the whole picture and hopefully your partner is showing you love in other ways, notwithstanding this screwup.
I've found some people can be so bad about these things (honestly myself included). He may need a reminder that these kinds of acknowledgements are really important to you and maybe you guys can schedule something special. With all the assholes wandering around in the world (who would also not acknowledge an anniversary) it can be confusing to see when someone is just not good at stuff.
How hard is it to put a reminder in your phone?
Send him a calendar invite.
This is hilarious....but also not a bad idea! My hubs and I got married last year (after being together for a long time) and I still don't have our wedding date memorized. 🫣 Calendaring everything on my personal calendar is just a simple way for me to not forget the big, medium and small stuff. Maybe that would be helpful to OP's hubby too.
My spouse is the exact same way. We have been together for a decade and have multiple children together. The way that I worked through it, was communicating how important XYZ date is and holding him accountable to show up on that day.
Why is work the only reason to forget an anniversary (assuming your partner did, which as IPA1 mentioned, can/should be communicated instead of assuming)?
Also A1 you really didn’t present your original comment as “advice,” you more seemed to just be attacking OP’s reasoning. You might have gotten a better response by phrasing this in a less accusatory way. If you didn’t want to offend, I hope you’ll take this as constructive criticism of the communication style. If you didn’t care about offending or even intended to offend, then you really shouldn’t be taken aback when OP responds with snark.
I love my husband to death. I forget birthdays, anniversaries, all kinds of dates. It is NOT a reflection of my feelings for him.
Was this your wedding anniversary?
