It’s been weird adjusting to all this free time. After the initial panic and nonstop job applications, I realized I needed to slow down for my own sanity too. Now, I’m trying to build a bit of a routine so I start my mornings with a walk or a workout (helps clear my head), then I set aside a couple of hours for job stuff, but after that I let myself do things I never had time for before. I’ve picked up reading again, started cooking more, and even tried out a few online courses just to keep my brain busy. Some days are better than others, but having a loose structure helps. Would love to hear what others are doing too. Thanks for sharing this because it’s nice to know we’re not alone in this!
Getting hot at the gym
It’s so important to have a consistent workout routine. It gives structure to your days, helps with mental health, and gives you something to do other than endlessly applying for jobs.
I would also recommend going for evening walks with friends and family. Make sure you’re getting a healthy mix of physical and social activity in addition to applying for jobs.
Trying to get a side business up and running, certification courses, trying to make the most of the time, but really would rather have a regularly scheduled job to go to. The point of the side business too, is to have something to fall back on if I find myself in this situation again.
I spend all of my time either freelancing, doing food deliveries, or applying for jobs. I have to keep myself busy so I don't stress out. If I have too much downtime, I start going a little stir-crazy.
Establishing a routine is so important after being laid off.
My routine consists of organizing my job alerts and spending couple hours applying. I also spend an hour on LinkedIn looking for new connections and contributing to posts.
It's also important to learn new things. On Tuesdays and Thursdays I dedicate time to learning new skills.
Don't cram all this into 8 hours. It's more like 5 hours so I can do things around the house or escape if I need to.
Most important, definitely squeeze in time for self-care. Whether it's a moment to breathe or get outside. You gotta stay mentally and physically healthy during this transition.
