Just be careful of splitting the nail. It is dangerous and painful for them. Also don’t try using nail polish- my dog hated the color I picked and wouldnt let them dry.
It is really easy to cut the quick in a dog‘s nails, and then if you ever need them, chances are they will never forget. It bleeds like crazy and can be very sensitive and painful for the dog. My first dog didn’t like it, but she would let me do it. My current dog will have nothing to do with my trimming her nails. I have to have her nails cut by a professional groomer, otherwise it would be very bad for our relationship.
We use a Dremel tool for our dog and while the sound and experience is not her favorite, it’s safer overall. I never worry about cutting the quick bc you have a lot more control. I will say wear glasses and do it outside if possible, nail dust goes everywhere
