I do vocabulary tests every week. I actually bought it from Teacher Thrive off of TpT and I LOVE it!!!
We have spelling test but we ask more than to simply spell the word. Students write a paragraph also to prove they know how to use the words in a sentence. Usually 10 words taken from the weeks readings, 5 words that are content specific words and if needed 5 words about being a good citizen. The paragraph sources whatever 5 words the student wants to write about.
I've used Greek and Latin Roots Practice and Asses from Lovin Lit on TPT for a few years. It's made a huge difference for my kids and it covers a major language standard. It's morning work for us, takes about 10 min a day, and has a quiz I grade on Fridays.
I have the lovin' lit interactive notebook. She even gives suggestions for teaching in a word order
Greek and Latin roots and vocabulary are the two big spots I try to cover. Spelling is not something we do as much in my district. Teacher Thrive has some awesome resources!
For spelling we use Words Their Way. There are lots of resources on TPT
I found from various places. Private message me and I can share the google doc with you :)
I use Wordly Wise vocab program. they have 15 Lessons per grade level. each lesson has 15 words. I have also used Oxford Sadlier for lower levels.
