What's the been single greatest motivating factor for you to persist in this industry and eventually reach Partner?
So great to see back-to-back Partner Q&As. Thanks for doing this. How long have you been at Deloitte? As someone junior in his career, I'm contemplating making my first move. Is it a disadvantage to move too often? How do you view this?
Manager 2: From a global perspective, GW is definitely not saturated. In North America, I believe that there is still opportunity; however, GW will need to look beyond their core market.
Accenture 7: I was actually involved in creating a no touch, no exception Insurance quoting and sales transactional system. Leveraging third party data and an advanced analytics engine, it allows consumers to buy Insurance without answering many underwriting questions and without any human intervention.
Microsoft 1: Thanks for the question. It’s great to hear you are joining Deloitte. I have worked at two consulting firms in my career and I have found Deloitte to be pretty accommodating when it comes to work/life balance. That being said, we are a client driven business and we go where our clients are situated. Your ability to stay local will depend on which office you are joining, your role and the number of local clients that can leverage your skill set. Unfortunately, the reality of consulting is that you will need travel at some point in your career. Since joining Deloitte, I have been able to reduce my travel to 50% from over 90% with my past employer.
Deloitte 6: Thanks for your question. I think from a overall diversity perspective we could do better. We always say that our leadership make up should represent he population as a whole. This is not the case whether we look at it from a gender, ethnicity, etc perspective. As a firm, we have many active programs designed to address these issues and reduce the disparities.
Deloitte 11: Yes I believe there may be. Look me up and send me an email. I try to help you make the connection.
Curious to hear your take on the next disruptive technology that will take hold of our space?
Thank you for taking the time Daniel.
Deloitte is amazing at encouraging women in technology. What advanced career opportunities is it planning to create in the future within the consulting space with flexible travel
Hi Daniel, thanks for doing this. What is your opinion on those at the manager level doing a 180 in industry alignment e.g. FNS to TMT? Any thoughts on what best practices to utilize if someone is pursuing such a switch at this later level? Thank you in advance!
Hi Daniel
What’s your position on hiring trends for consultancies moving forward. Will the proportion of generalist hires reduce for specialists? And how will that impact the career progression model ?
If you were a mid lvl professional (30yr old consultant) in the tech space, how would you position yourself between having an equity stake in a promising startup vs. gunning for partner? And why?
Hi Daniel. I’m currently in internal finance at Accenture, but I want to move into consulting. I’m one year out of college. Is it possible to get hired as a consulting analyst with one year of non consulting work experience?
You can move to consulting within Accenture. Talk to you CC and TFS.
Hi Daniel. How do you deal with favouritism at work? Considering favouritism is part of human nature, how do you avoid leading to something substantial, like getting salary or promotional benefits? Thanks.
ATK1: Thanks for the question. If you mean tech consulting, I would look for opportunity in technology strategy where you can leverage your skills from you prior post-MBA consulting experience. If you are thinking of joining a high tech company like an Apple or Google them I would look at the business side of these organizations such as Product Management.
Hey Daniel! Thanks for your time.
I am in HC Toronto and would love to get more exposure to the MA practice, specifically with HR due diligence...are there any opportunities for that ?
Accenture 5: Thanks for your question. I think it’s all about what you want to do and what you have a passion for. The Partner journey is long and you need to love it to get there. My journey took 12 years and a lot of sacrifices but I enjoy the work and ultimately it was worth it.
Protiviti 1: Thanks for the question. It depends on the role. If it’s tech strat then MBA grads with some tech background is a usually a good fit. If it’s for our architecture practice than a Masters in CS might be a better fit.
Accenture 6: Short answer is yes but it will depend on what role you are applying for and your personal interest. I always try to leverage my prior experience and background. So if you have a background in Finance, you might consider looking for a role in the Finance and Performance Mgmt practice where your Finance background may come in handy.
Accenture 8: I left for work/life balance reasons. I was traveling more than I wanted at that time and Deloitte offered me any opportunity where I could be more local.
Deloitte 5: Thanks for the question. As a leader, it is important to be fair in all your dealings and stay objective. It is also important to lean back on process which is meant to drive objectivity. For example, our comp review process has checks and balances embedded to prevent favoritism from creeping in.
EY 2: Thanks for the question. In general, we try to align the individual to the level where we feel is a good starting point for them to be successful. We take a long view and want to make sure your first experience is a good one and that the level is appropriate for your prior experience.
