The best male allies I’ve worked with led with humility and curiosity. They asked thoughtful questions, didn’t try to “fix” things, and followed the team’s lead. Then use your voice to back theirs. Amplify, don’t dominate. What does support look like from your teammates' perspective? You could ask them.
Great advice! Will keep this in mind
I’ve only ever had female managers. We need more allies for males.
+1 for this parent comment
Following. The teams I've worked on have all been made of primarily women. While I've always gotten along well with them, I'm not sure how effective I am at providing meaningful support.
Some great advice here!
Coach
Love that you’re asking this. Just being aware and intentional already sets you apart.
Here are a few ways to be a strong ally:
1. Listen first
Pay attention to team dynamics and how ideas are shared or dismissed.
2. Share the mic
If someone’s being interrupted or overlooked, speak up. Redirect attention back to them. A quick "Let’s go back to what ___ said" goes a long way!!!
3. Give credit where it's due
Women’s contributions are often minimized. Be intentional about acknowledging wins publicly, not just in private.
4. Treat everyone like equals
Support doesn’t mean overcorrecting. Be respectful and real without being performative.
5. Keep learning
Allyship is ongoing. Stay open to feedback and keep asking questions like this one.
The women on your team will notice that kind of support and respect you so much for it!! Hope this helps:)
Great actionable advice! Thank you I will do my best
I love that you are asking this. I agree with Marketing Manager 1 above. Backing the women up in your office and giving credit where credit is due is also a good way to be an ally.
Will do!
I don’t think it’s that serious. Just be respectful don’t talk over the women. Listen to them, treat them like you would your male colleagues in a professional way that’s all we women want.
