How do you ask for more responsibility at work without sounding like you’re unhappy or ungrateful?

I feel like I still have some growth to achieve in my career, but I’m not sure how to bring it up in a way that feels positive. Would love to hear what’s worked for others.

I usually approach it in a way where you can express how much more efficient you've become in your role and are ready to take on more responsibilities. Not about being unhappy in the least, but more so eager to be more involved in the company.

I just had to do this! It was already a bit of a conversation where my manager had mentioned taking on more. I was finally ready to green light that. I let them know I appreciated all I’ve learned and been able to accomplish up to this point, and would love to grow in the role more. They did tell me it would be a while before anything happened, so that was a bit of a letdown.

While you are waiting for that new work, try talking with some folks outside of your typical group of peers. Semi-networking, semi-getting to know you / watercooler /coffee break chat.

Another area might be to see if there are any company volunteer groups or employee groups that might need a hand with an event or activity.

I've never thought that anyone asking for more responsibility is being unhappy or ungrateful. To me, they sound motivated and ambitious. I think it's all about the perspective and the energy you carry into the conversation.

I had requested a super brutal resume review a couple of days back here and got some excellent feedback. Added indents and cut down content (there was a lot more text earlier) according to suggestions.

Will be extremely grateful for an additional review with the changes. I am looking for business intelligence and business analyst roles.

I am also looking for a referral in Deloitte +kpmg for a systems/bi analyst role, will be super grateful for some help there too.

A year ago, I got promoted to Art Director, and since our team is pretty small, I’m still very hands-on in terms of designing. I’m currently responsible for creating online advertising, branding and everything that goes into our social media channels (design, not content). I want to ask others Art Directors here, what responsibilities you have. What your day-to-day looks like? I’m still doing everything that I used to do when I was a Lead Designer. Am I missing something?
