“If I really don’t belong here, I might as well earn my spot now” AKA I will either make reasons to justify my being here (e.g., get better at the job, work harder, etc.) or identify reasons why I did earn this (e.g., I did X, most people don’t do Y but I did, etc.). Also a healthy dose of not caring. You got this🫶
Work your butt off and realize that you’re there for a reason. You cost them money, so they aren’t keeping you around out of good will. They’re keeping you because they think you being there is good for them. Also realize that you are not equal to your worst output; even if you mess up, you’ve done a lot of good in your life and you deserve to feel like you belong. Unless you lied somewhere along the way to get your role, they hired you knowing who you are and are keeping you knowing it as well.
We all feel like this from time to time but if you really were an imposter you’re leadership would have sniffed you out. True imposters don’t last long and it’s understood there is a learning curve.
Become an imposter on purpose so you know the difference, then go back to being the smart, hardworking, talented individual you are. But this time, thank the people around you more on your journey up
Incoming AC at bain , needed to read this thread today lol. y’all are great!
Remind yourself of your experience, education and experience. Don’t forget to breathe and be grateful. Also, be confident and if you’re not- fake it until you make it. Never let them see you sweat!
Very same boat
EY 1 is sus
I think about this often. I feel like there’s one aspect to it which involves building your self confidence through hard work and learning but I think there’s another social aspect to it that involves leadership within the organization making people feel like they truly belong in the role that they’re in through mentoring etc. Idk maybe im projecting lol but i feel like gaslighting ourselves into thinking the issue only comes from ourselves and the only solution is that we just have to fight our way through it doesnt seem fair to ourselves.
Understand that feeling is incorrect. Other (likely more experienced) people interviewed you and other candidates and thought you were the best. You are exactly where you're supposed to be based on your work and effort. Now work harder to justify a healthy ego and get to the next level.
Don't be an imposter. Do your research, study, if you like what you do, this should come naturally
Look they hired you for a reason. If you stay consistent with how you performed in college at your last job, college, etc you’re going to continue to fulfill that reason for why they hired you. Now you could go above and beyond and really flourish or it might take a little while to get settled or even struggle for a little bit. The truth is despite all of that most people are going to be compassionate and offer a helping hand if and when you need it so don’t be afraid to ask for help and believe in yourself. At the end of the day people are going to believe whatever persona it is that your project so you might as well believe in yourself and sell your own value even if you don’t fully trust it at the time being. Other people will

Really dont feel bad, we make pennies compared to what the higher ups and stakeholders do. Be grateful but really dont feel bad they slave us. You didnt make it in life yet. Your extra hours is buying them their next vacation home. Change your mentality
Imposter syndrome? 😂😂 Dude what is that🤣🤣
if you feel it, thats a great sign that you made it & you are worthy of where you are. there are billions of people who never have to ask themselves this, even is they are worthy and capable, most likely they took a passive approach to life. you are feel this because you actively worked towards it, hence why its you & not someone else. if you feel it, you made it.
Fake it till you make it man. Works every time.
