I'm lucky that I got started 5 or 6 years ago, before it got super over saturated. It's definitely still possible now, but getting those first gigs can be a real challenge. It's probably going to cost a lot of connects and you'll have to undersell yourself a little. Really make sure that you tailor each proposal, and do not use any AI to write it.
It's really funny how I got my first few gigs. My brother who owned a company gave me my first 4 and then the next 6 just followed through from invite-only short gigs. Your first 10 can be small ones, don't aim for the long-term contracts now. Get the small ones out of the way for now, and then turn your focus to long-term or month-long ones. See if any friends or family who have business can hire you for short gigs for the sake of getting them to appear on your profile.'
My biggest advice is, unfortunately, to undersell yourself at first in order to get a reputation and reviews. It means you'll be working for less money than you should just to establish yourself. That's what I did, and it really helped in a fairly oversaturated market.
