This tends to happen to me when my time in the Bible and prayer is low—which tends to happen when I’m overworked. Try carving out even 15-minute breaks to get outside; praising and thanking God for what’s in your life; writing your prayers; using a morning devotional to help you meditate on God’s word; and/or talking to your pastor, a counselor or other Christian man you trust.
100% this! Every year at Christmas my mom and I go to a Christian book store together and pick out two 365 days devotionals. One is more scripture focused that I read on the train in the AM and write down a prayer about the thing weighing most heavily in my mind. The other is more of a short devotional with journal space. I use the space to document the three things my husband and I are most thankful for each day. It’s true that thankfulness = happiness, and this keeps me in check with only about 15 minutes a day. It sets me in a path to be a calmer/kinder person, and it reminds me to look up when work gets tough instead of trying to do everything on my own. It’s also kind of a like a mini journal. Easy to looks back and count your blessing every year or couple of months. Also - I have found a tremendous amount of purpose in coaching and mentoring others at my firm and truly getting to know my colleagues and clients. That’s where I put a lot of my energy and so far it has made me happier and also pays dividends in that my staff have good attitudes and actually want to help. Hope this post helps you!
I do all things to Glorify God. No matter the task
Corrie ten Boom has said, “Trying to do the Lord’s work in your own strength is the most confusing, exhausting, and tedious of all work. But when you are filled with the Holy Spirit, then the ministry of Jesus just flows out of you.”
God puts you where He needs you. Acknowledging that and being aware of the higher purpose of the experiences He puts in your path opens a whole new view of purpose.
I like to talk with my colleagues about God while at lunch, when it comes up, slowly showing people the love of God. Let everything you do be for the glory of God.
