Living the life of Job: husband’s job loss five years ago; husband’s mother’s slow death four years ago; husband’s cancer diagnosis, death in past three years; caregiver for my two parents for past three years (dad’s severe decline); my diagnosis and surgery for early cancer last year; husband’s father died two weeks ago; losing my job in Sept to take early retirement after a 40-yr career.
Here’s what I’m learning:
God multiplies our strength to meet the challenges He gives.
Gratitude softens grief.
I am not alone. I have many incredibly wonderful people in my life (neighbors, church, former co-workers who’ve become lifelong friends)--and my husband’s death brought them all together to hear the gospel.
God can pour love through my heart, into others’ in the toughest of circumstances.
PwC can certainly do that and I’ve been there too. I found it helpful to look at my work first as a ministry to people as an ambassador for Christ. I’m goal-oriented and tend to focus on getting work done rather than relationships. Building relationships with others has made my work more satisfying.
God also pulled me out of the area I’d been in and put me in another group. That’s when I realized the group I’d been in was very negative and an energy suck. I’m much happier in my new group. There are more positives to focus on and gratitude lightens my load.
He sure is! I’m convinced God has a time and a purpose for everything He allows in our lives. The facts that (1) He loves us and (2) everything must pass through His hands to accomplish His good purposes in our lives prompts confidence to trust Him, come what may.
Saved me from layoff at GT this week! God is good:)
Hi all, just joined this bowl yesterday - glad to have found it. My perennial struggle is to have quality devotional time (Bible reading/meditation, prayer) in the am before work. I’ve been trying to get to work early and have this time before the work day begins; I’m not always successful. Recently have been taking the metro more and read on the metro; then I get off a few stops early and pray while walking the rest of the way to work. I really like this and hope I can keep it up.
This really encouraged me! Praying for you and your journey. Also, I’ve found that praying over my environment (work space , prayer walks around the office ) can uplift and change the atmosphere! Praying for you
Would love to hear what others do to keep on track.
I listen to a Bible app while driving. Always good to hear His word to start my day
I read at night before bed rather than the morning. This gets me in the right frame of mind before resting.
