As a Sloan alumni, I can tell you it’s a very tight-knit culture. My experience was a very positive one. Classmates are very helpful and there’s no competition. People are there to learn and get jobs, they’re not interested in grades, beating others, or managing their appearance. I found it to be a down to earth culture and liked how authentic everyone was. Not sure what the MIT stereotype you’re thinking of, but happy to answer any more questions based on my experience.
It’s definitely not a nerdy crew like the undergrads (no offense). It’s a very outgoing crew. We did a ton of fun trips around the world and hung out like normal MBA students 😂
That is awesome to hear in terms of entrepreneurial spirit. How does it stack up against Stanford, for eg?
VERY entrepreneurial. There’s a ton of classes, labs, competitions, funding, and VC presence. I can’t compare it to GSB cuz I didn’t go there, but the startup mindset is prevalent in at least 1/3 of the class. Most of those start or join a startup during school. Look up the following MIT Martin Trust Center for entrepreneurs, Sandbox funding, NfX FAST and Pillar VC Moonshot, MIT $100k competition, and MIT iHQ. It’s also a well trodden path to have MBA co-found companies with the undergrads/PhDs looking into specific technologies.
