How much do you share with your clients about your personal life (e.g., what you did over the weekend)? I have some clients where we share quite a bit, which makes the relationship feel stronger but it’s always a tightrope to not overshare or waste time.

Oh I keep it superficial but friendly. I want my clients to feel comfortable with me and taking with me but I do not want them to have any insights to my personal life. I like to keep clear boundaries.

It depends on the client. Some are friendly and enjoy a little chit chatting before getting into things, others are all business and seem to have no time for it. I just go by feel and tend to keep things surface level.

It depends, I tend not to volunteer a lot of info about myself, just because I don't think it matters. But if we get into a conversation I'll engage in conversation about it. I don't think my interests really align with most of the people I know via work, so I tend not to get into too many details. If I mention the books I'm reading or the music I listen to I don't think they'll have any idea what I'm talking about.

I find it’s best to meet the client where they’re at. Some clients absolutely do not pass the vibe check, so cautious where necessary.

There are definitely some that don’t pass the vibe check. I had one guy get a little too open/comfortable with me a few years back and would talk about his sex life. It was totally awkward 🤢

Hi Everyone - I was hoping someone could throw some light on the kind of work trust and safety does. I see a lot of open roles - managers, senior strategists etc. I have a top 20 MBA and about 8 years of big 4 experience in consulting - would this be the right kind of role to get into? I spoke to a EY Recruiter today. She asked for my range for a manager role on the Federal side. I said 150-175 base. The role is in DC. She informed me that is more in the SM range and she would reach out if there was a SM opportunity she had available. I’ve been in industry for more than 10 years. I didn’t think 150-175 base was too high for a manager role with Big 4 in DC. I make close to these figures now. Am I going to take a pay cut coming from industry to consulting?

Currently making 180 TC at a large bank and have an offer from a FAANG for 260 TC. Salary is not much different (165) but bonus/equity structure is decent. fully remote, dope company etc. I’ll be moving laterally in terms of title but I get the impression the scope/impact is larger and leveling is different in tech… no brainer?
