Could you show the case studies to someone with more awards experience and get pointers on how to improve? So often it’s not just the campaign but how you sell it. With those you could go back to the team and brainstorm ways to improve your next cases
Been here, lived with that — and by the way, getting a big gong won’t make everyone on your team delighted since everyone, in this space, is about the awards they can put on their own damn resumes. Only thing you can do is focus attention on what is actually important - doing cool stuff and being over the moon about that.
In case it helps, I’ve had work that won at Cannes and London, got zip in D&AD, got into CA while getting a merit at the One Show and shut out of the more respectable local shows. I’ve also had work that got frozen out of all of the above, but rocked the Clios and Mercuries and you name it.
It’s all subjective and I’ve talked to colleagues in the rooms who’ve been thumbs up and thumbs down on the work and when you ask “wtf,” they give the same answers you and I would: we felt it, we didn’t, we needed to take a dump when the work came up, we were just tired of the whole thing, we were happy/sad/pissed off by this that or the other thing in the process.
